Kila Gompa, Bhutan · APR 2024
Above the Clouds
from £20
A lone monk pauses at a mountainside tea house, the Himalayan ridges receding into mist beyond the timber screen.
High on a Bhutanese hillside, the mountainside nunnery of Kila Gompa opens onto the Himalaya through a screen of timber and glass. A single monk had stopped at the long table — a flask, a bowl, and ridge after ridge of Himalaya dissolving into mist behind him.
Black and white suits the weather exactly: the muted, foggy light was never about colour, and monochrome turns the layered ridges into soft grey bands behind the strong geometry of the terrace.
A meditative, atmospheric piece — stillness, framed.
