The Chequered Light
from £20
A chequerboard lighthouse standing alone on the still Firth of Clyde, mirrored in the calm water at golden hour.
Out on the Firth of Clyde, west of Glasgow, a small chequerboard lighthouse stands on its own stone base, marking the channel. On a still evening the water turns to a mirror and doubles it exactly, the green Renfrewshire hills soft behind.
The black-and-white pattern against the blue-grey water is almost a graphic device — bold, symmetrical, calm. The reflection makes the composition; without that stillness it would be an ordinary navigation mark.
A quiet piece of home — the most local image in the collection, a short way down the river from Glasgow.
